Summary

A decade ago, Emily Carlino vanished after her car broke down on a California highway。 She was presumed to be one of serial killer Ronny Lee Jessup's victims whose remains were never found。

Writer David Thorne still hasn't recovered from losing the love of his life, or from the guilt of not being there to save her。 Since then, he's sought closure any way he can。 He even visits regularly with Jessup in prison, desperate for answers about Emily's final hours so he may finally lay her body to rest。 Then David meets Maddison Sutton, beguiling, playful, and keenly aware of all David has lost。 But what really takes his breath away is that everything about Maddison, down to her kisses, is just like Emily。 As the fantastic becomes credible, David's obsession grows, Maddison's mysterious past deepens--and terror escalates。

Is she Emily? Or an irresistible dead ringer? Either way, the ultimate question is the same: What game is she playing? Whatever the risk in finding out, David's willing to take it for this precious second chance。 It's been ten years since he's felt this inspired, this hopeful, this much in love。。。and he's afraid。

Where's the dog?kengler33@gmail。comI thought I'd read all Koontz' books when I came upon this book。 It was a bit long and tedious but I enjoyed it。 The guilt of David's disloyalty to Emily is pervasive throughout the story。 Reading the mystery of this second Emily that says she's not Emily was very good。 My only complaint is that there was no dog in this book! That's one thing I always look forward to in his novels and this one was missing。 You NEED the dog。 Where's the dog?kengler33@gmail。comI thought I'd read all Koontz' books when I came upon this book。 It was a bit long and tedious but I enjoyed it。 The guilt of David's disloyalty to Emily is pervasive throughout the story。 Reading the mystery of this second Emily that says she's not Emily was very good。 My only complaint is that there was no dog in this book! Always like the writer’s theme but always feel the book ends with too many things uncovered and wrapped thins up in an instant。

Jans fireI have read Mr Koontz for many years。 Every book I have enjoyed greatly because of his ability to put me right there with all the excitement of the moment。 My heart just pounds with the feeling of joy at his descriptive narrative which I am able to identify。

This was just ok for me。 I really like the idea of it。。。but it just didn't hold my attention and I was never really fully invested。 I feel like, even though it's not a really long book, maybe if it had been tightened up a bit it would have worked better for me。 This was my first Dean Koontz book and I will try another。。。but this just missed for me personally。 This was just ok for me。 I really like the idea of it。。。but it just didn't hold my attention and I was never really fully invested。 I feel like, even though it's not a really long book, maybe if it had been tightened up a bit it would have worked better for me。 This was my first Dean Koontz book and I will try another。。。but this just missed for me personally。 。。。more

What did I just read?! Was it a paranormal book, a sci-fi, a love story, a thriller? Was it a para-sci-love-thrill? I don’t know what is was, and honestly, I don’t care! Alright so here’s the deal。 I listened to this as part of audible unlimited so I didn’t pay for it specifically which is good because I didn’t like it enough to find being worth using a audible credit on。 That being said my dear pal, it was bad! Emily? Maddison? Anna? Who knows。 Who cares。 i don't really know what i just read。 i don't know why i even started this book in the first place。 i can appreciate that the writing was pretty good, but the story itself just fell flat for me。 it's like Koontz tried to slowly drip-feed information to the reader as the book progressed, but forgot to actually release that information。 this book was just soooooo confusing to me, and even now that i'm finished i honestly still can't figure out what happ Emily? I used to love Dean Koontz when I was a teen。 I thought the premise was good but nostalgia wasn’t strong enough to keep me enamoured 。 This story felt so long even though it was only 352 pages。 I wanted so badly to DNF! it was too descriptive… I don’t care about the route he’s taking or any of that。 I want a story。 Funny enough everyone complains about the end and to me that was the best part as that’s when the action kicked in。 More dialogue, more excitement。 Too bad it didn’t save the book。 I I used to love Dean Koontz when I was a teen。 I thought the premise was good but nostalgia wasn’t strong enough to keep me enamoured 。 This story felt so long even though it was only 352 pages。 I wanted so badly to DNF! it was too descriptive… I don’t care about the route he’s taking or any of that。 I want a story。 Funny enough everyone complains about the end and to me that was the best part as that’s when the action kicked in。 More dialogue, more excitement。 Too bad it didn’t save the book。 I won’t be returning to anymore Koontz books - I’d probably just keep the past in the past unlike the main character David。 。。。more

I gave up not even halfway through this book。 I ultimately picked it back up and finished and was disappointed in the end。 The suspense was tremendous at times。 Other times, I found the story too slow, too many avenues and too many characters to keep up on。 On a positive note, I am glad I read this on my kindle because was able to lookup new words easily。 70 words! I love Koontz, but this was just too weird for me。 I totally missed the genre of this, and if I had read more reviews, I wouldn’t have started it。

When Koontz first started writing, I took him to be a sort of down-market Steven King。 I was wrong。 Koontz is a superb writer, and I think in the last few years he's departed more and more from the horror side of his novels and instead written intensely mysterious, tense, and often very personal reflections on life。 The Other Emily is a really intriguing read。 I didn't guess the ending at all。 I think it works really well。 I've read a number of novels recently where I say 'I didn't get the endin When Koontz first started writing, I took him to be a sort of down-market Steven King。 I was wrong。 Koontz is a superb writer, and I think in the last few years he's departed more and more from the horror side of his novels and instead written intensely mysterious, tense, and often very personal reflections on life。 The Other Emily is a really intriguing read。 I didn't guess the ending at all。 I think it works really well。 I've read a number of novels recently where I say 'I didn't get the ending', but I probably did and they were crap; I was only being polite。 But the intensity of this mystery just built and built。 It's one of those books where (if you weren't a disciplined reader) you want to skip to the end and find out what the heck is happening。There are two story threads that blend exceptionally well: the ghastly serial killer, and the mysterious, returned Emily。 I highly recommend this book for an excellent read with a very likeable main character。 And besides, any author who says in his afterword that he lives not only with his current Golden Retriever, but also with the spirit of those that have gone ahead gets my vote。 。。。more

Couldn't put this novel down。 I usually don't read thrillers which I guess this is the genre。 I just didn't like the ending。 It was too science fiction and I did not expect it。 I would have liked it to be believable。 Still a good, quick, entertaining read。 Couldn't put this novel down。 I usually don't read thrillers which I guess this is the genre。 I just didn't like the ending。 It was too science fiction and I did not expect it。 I would have liked it to be believable。 Still a good, quick, entertaining read。 。。。more

I had no idea where this book was going up until near the end。 I’m sure this was what Koontz was going for so once I picked my jaw back up, I enjoyed the heck out of the ending。So far I don’t think I’ve read a Koontz book that didn’t have some kind of deep love between 2 characters, be it two people in love, a parent and child, 2 siblings, a character and a dog…。 This is what has always drawn me to Dean Koontz。 When I finish that last page, there is always a sigh。 And a feeling of contentment。 T I had no idea where this book was going up until near the end。 I’m sure this was what Koontz was going for so once I picked my jaw back up, I enjoyed the heck out of the ending。So far I don’t think I’ve read a Koontz book that didn’t have some kind of deep love between 2 characters, be it two people in love, a parent and child, 2 siblings, a character and a dog…。 This is what has always drawn me to Dean Koontz。 When I finish that last page, there is always a sigh。 And a feeling of contentment。 The Other Emily took a long time to get to that point, but it got there! Mediocre at best and I am a huge fan of Koontz。 The beginning was interesting, but it was like someone else wrote the other half of the book。 Terrible ending。 Not one of Dean’s best, sorry to say。

I struggled to get through this book, which is unusual because I like reading this author。 But, the only Interesting part was the end when you get all the answers。 It mostly contains the usual desperately obsessed millionaire looking in all the wrong places that fill in time and pages only to discovery none of it answered anything。 Borrow the book from the library and skip to the end。 Trust me, I'm saving you hours! I have enjoyed many of Dean Koontz novels, especially his earlier ones。 The cover blurb is the best part of this book! A great premise destroyed by a self absorbed, boring main character who’s actions and reactions are totally unbelievable- even when you suspend belief。 Also a plot that loses its way。

🤔 Not quite sure what I think of this! I’m not generally a fan of Koontz’s weirdness, but ya gotta admit he’s got a fertile imagination! And I’d liked the Jane Hawk series (awesome reader on the CD version!), & “The Darkest Evening of the Year”, so I keep hoping to find another one I’ll like like those。 Odd Thomas—no。 This one—I don’t think so。 There were parts that were satisfyingly suspenseful, but in the end I don’t feel satisfied。 There’s only one thin thread connecting the serial killer sto 🤔 Not quite sure what I think of this! I really enjoyed that this book in particular was broken up into parts, as well as into chapters! Book like this make it more easy to put down when needed!
